Men and women are just as happy in their careers; they’re getting promoted at the same rate, regardless of career and maternity breaks; they share the same views as men on what’s important to progress, and by and large they have the same skills needed to move on up in their careers.

There is one crucial difference, women don’t find the technology careers as attractive, this research by Computer Weekly and Mortimer Spinks reveals.

Findings include:

  • Women are more successful at fitting into the culture of the team than the men.
  • Women progress at the same speed as men.
  • 64% of women have felt discriminated against in their job because of  their gender.
  • Women make up 15% of the tech workforce.
  • Women in tech are happy to be there.

Over 1,318 IT professionals took part in the survey. Those who took part ranged from junior help desk staff to CTOs, 45% women and 55% men. They earned salaries in the range of £18,000 to £175,000.
